Meijer Seeking Food Retail Leaders for Grand Rapids Area in Caledonia, Michigan

Meijer is currently looking for a Food Line Leader . The individual selected for this position will be responsible for planning, directing and supervising team members in the day to day operation of the Food area. Developing strategies to improve customer service, driving store sales and increasing profitability. Ensuring customer needs are met, complaints are resolved effectively and efficiently and service is quick and efficient. Ensuring that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability. Forecasting staffing needs and developing recruiting strategy to provide optimal staffing in all areas of grocery. This leadership role hires, trains, and develops a team of 2-4 supervisors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure execution of the Merchandising plan for maximize sales and productivity

  • P&Ls, including but not limited to sales, labor, shrink and margin

  • Ensuring that daily work assignments are coordinated and created for the stocking team

  • Food safety compliance in all areas of Supermarket

  • Developing, planning and implementing processes to achieve goals including shrink, margin, profit, sales, labor

  • Scheduling

  • Coaching and developing all food team members

  • Oversee receiving and central salvage

  • Reviewing daily ad orders for completeness and accuracy

  • Maintaining full and abundant shelves

  • Managing all store owned space such as endcaps and flex areas in the Food Area

  • Ensure exceptional customer service by addressing Customer Surveys and customer feedback with team.

  • Spending 80% of time on sales floor communicating with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service is being delivered by organizing and maintaining the Remarkable Service Board

  • Promoting a safe work environment

  • Working until 11pm or later on nights schedule to close

  • Consistent and reliable attendance required

  • Other daily tasks as required


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • At least 6 years of related experience in retail or other related service industries

  • Experience within the following areas a plus Meat, bakery, produce and deli.

  • Clear communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict by addressing root cause issues

  • Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to coach on suggestive selling techniques

  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members

  • ServSafe Certification

  • Duty trained
