Dayton Public Health Dayton Montgomery County Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training (OMJ/MC) in Dayton, Ohio

Position Summary: Under the direction of an Environmental Health Supervisor, the Environmental Health Specialist in Training (EHSIT) or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) is responsible for the implementation of environmental health programs. Conducts inspections and investigations to ensure businesses and residents are operating in compliance with state regulations, and in a manner that protects the public's health and the environment. Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health or degree in the Physical, Natural, or Biological Sciences • EHSIT/B23: Meet all educational requirements set forth by ORC 3776 and OAC 4736 and required to obtain REHS I status within five years. • REHS I/B24: Passing the REHS exam and one year experience as an EHSIT, if having an accredited Environmental Health Bachelor's Degree with internship; or a master's degree; or two to five years' experience as an EHSIT. • REHS II/B25: Five years' experience as a REHS I. • Understands and acknowledges that Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County uses evidence-based and evidence informed public health practices based on scientific research including health promotion theory and practice, environmental health measures, and communicable disease control measures including vaccination, isolation, and quarantine practices, and medicine for treatment and prevention of disease, among others. • Understands and acknowledges the use of tobacco or nicotine products in any form including replacement therapy products and prescription medications used to treat smoking addiction for any anyone hired after January 1, 2014, is prohibited • Required to play an active role during the public health emergency, crisis, outbreak, incident, or event in which the Health Commissioner deems additional personnel resources are warranted. This may include changes in responsibilities and working locations/hours. • Completion of Incident Command System 100 and National Incident Management System 700 courses within 90 days of hire • Valid State of Ohio driver's license and insurance on any personal vehicle that will be used for work Preferred Qualifications: • Current EHSIT, REHS I/II, or a Graduate Degree in Environmental Health or Public Health
