Position Purpose:

The Research Assistant/Data Analyst will join the research lab in the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University (https://iog.wayne.edu/profile/hm6696). Primary projects will focus on family and friend caregivers for individuals living with dementia (including an Alzheimer's Association funded study on dementia care management styles), dementia caregiving networks (a National Institute on Aging R01), caregiving in the context of COVID-19, and biopsychosocial factors relating to the health and well-being of older adults. This position offers the opportunity to build and develop skills related to research and gerontology including leading presentations and manuscripts for publication in academic and healthcare journals and the chance to solve real pressing problems in the field of gerontology.

Essential Functions:

Data management (e.g., merging datasets, longitudinal data management, merging Medicare claims, creating variables)

Data analysis (e.g., advanced multivariate analyses such as latent class analysis, machine learning methods, longitudinal analysis, linear and logistic regression)

Description and interpretation of study results

Assisting in the writing of methods and results sections for papers and proposals

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree

• Master’s degree in a quantitative field, such as biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology required.

Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

• 1-2 years of experience using relevant statistical software (R, SAS, SPSS).

(SAS – STATISTICAL ANALYSIS SYSTEM, SPSS-STATISTICAL PACKAGE FOR THE SOCIAL SCIENCES, R- PROGRAMING LANGUAGE)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience utilizing statistical models including latent class models, machine learning models, linear and logistic regression, mixed effects models, structural equation models.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.

• Prior experience working with survey and/or healthcare data.

• Comprehensive knowledge of statistical methods.

• Intellectual flexibility to adapt to emerging results and research.

• Self-starter, organized, persistent, solution oriented.

• Effective communicator, especially when describing complex statistical models & results.

• Willingness to teach others and learn new techniques.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
