This role will be responsible for leading strategy through collaboration, as well as executing through project management. Safety, compliance, and leading people will be a priority. Additionally, this role will oversee the development and ongoing success of the regional technical support center, waste profiling, and vendor management. The Director of Waste will serve as the subject matter expert and will oversee and provide guidance to the sites. This will include providing direction to the Site Managers to best manage the day-to-day operations, ensuring the most effective and efficient operations, as well as providing guidance on routes and budget. The Director of Waste will be knowledgeable in the P&L, assist in budgeting and will liaise with the AVP regarding critical matters.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for optimization of the operations and functionality of the assigned sites, while promoting safety, sanitation, and security through ensuring that all awareness programs, meetings, inspections and preventative measures required have been completed on time.
  • Assist with building safe processes at the facilities such as bulking, pumping, de-lab packaging, drum management, leachate management and shipping/receiving. This will also include the tank farm operations. This will need to be performed in accordance with local Regulations and permit allowances.
  • Oversight of the US technical team to ensure proper profiling and coding for quoting purposes. Build cost analysis database on all waste streams. Team to assist with proper entry of regulatory information into GFL\'s operating system.
  • Research, negotiation, auditing, and tracking of any 3rd party end receivers that may be used for waste movements. Build logistical efficiencies (whether GFL specific or 3rd party) to move waste throughout the network.
  • Understand market conditions and work with business units and sales to ensure sell rates are in line and carry profitability. Also work with same teams to build intel as required. Overall business unit(s) accountability for performance, safety and profitability.
  • Provide guidance and direction to GFL Operations staff with regard to waste processing and disposal policies, procedures and regulations. Responsible to guide industrial waste processing and disposal operations at multiple sites in a way that increases flexibility of the sites and reduces bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Develop short- and long-term goals and operating procedures to achieve/maintain on-going compliance of waste processing.
  • Strong cost center management experience as part of their respective operational responsibilities and have a solid track record in providing positive results.
  • Proficient understanding of US Regulations impacting the various sites and operations
  • Manage the financial, human, and physical resources of the assigned sites in alignment with GFL\'s vision and values and in accordance with the annual business Plan, with a strong focus on Profit & Loss activities.
  • Provide overall direction and co-ordination of all employees under his/her jurisdiction, including hiring, training, managing performance, promotion and discipline, and recommendations for discharge in accordance with policy and practice.
  • Strong leadership skills, leading people in a functional organization.
  • Responsible for guiding and supporting the District Managers/Operations Managers in the preparation and oversight o tenders/quotations and reports for operating, security and maintenance works including design, setting specifications, preparing cost estimates, project management and commissioning.

Requirements

BA degree in business or equivalent work experience required.

Minimum 5 years\' experience in an Operation\'s Manager role.

Experience and strong knowledge in Hazardous Waste Management.

Strong knowledge of DOT and OHSHA.
