The Quality Specialist : this position supports continuous quality improvement initiatives through problem investigation, repair, data collection, reporting and analysis. This is a senior role within the department and expectations are aligned accordingly with regards to problem solving experience and expertise and decision-making ability. A Quality Specialist will be called upon to investigate, manage, and resolve part quality, process quality, and product performance issues found throughout all of manufacturing. They will have direct involvement in providing solutions to a variety of issues by working closely with Suppliers, Operations, and Engineering. This position has responsibility to mentor and educate members of the Quality and Operations staff in their specialized area of expertise (unit repair, part repair, metrology, QMS compliance, quality documentation, GMP/GDP, troubleshooting, etc).

Job Summary

  • Promotes Helmer values as demonstrated in personal productivity and quality of work, management of internal/external relationships, actively seeking out and participating in Continuous Improvement practices, and willingness to engage and support team initiatives.

  • Comply with safety procedures

  • Responsible for calibration program. Sends notification of equipment due for calibration to equipment owners. Performs in-house calibration and arranges for outsource calibration. Maintains adequate inventory of loaner test equipment.

  • Leads activity related to stop ship and quality issues causing downtime to production

  • Investigates and resolves part quality and/or product performance issues raised by manufacturing. Escalates to Quality Engineering, Design Engineering or Supplier Quality as appropriate. Conduct nonconformance/problem investigation and reports results. Participates in problem solving teams and leads as necessary. May lead small problem-solving events. Processes non-conforming parts. Thoroughly documents all quality acitivites in the appropriate databases.

  • Direct involvement to quality issues causing production down-time and determines need to escalate issues following company policy.

  • Performs inspections requiring advanced measurement techniques.

  • Reviews and approves device history records and other documentation as needed.

Qualifications:

Relative Work Experience: 5-7 years related work experience (manufacturing experience in a FDA/ISO facility preferred).

Education: High School diploma

Certifications / Licenses: ASQ CQI pr CQT preferred.

Computer Systems / Software: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, FourthShift (CMM, SPC, Minitab preferred).

Key Competencies:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with various types of mechanical measuring devices and ability to read blueprints.

  • Good verbal and written skills.

  • Ability to balance interests of a variety of customers; readily readjusts priorities to respond to pressing and changing demands; effectively explores alternatives to reach outcomes that gain all parties’ support and acceptance while maintaining quality standards and compliance to FDA/ISO guidelines.

  • Demonstrates ability to plan and prioritize work; assess work requirements; make timely and appropriate decisions; use good judgment; meet time commitments.

  • Capability to follow established procedures and ensure accuracy in documentation and data; concentrate on routine work details amid periodic interruptions.

Base compensation range $24-$26
