Ingham County Medical Care Facility Nurses: RN or LPN in OKEMOS, Michigan

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant will provide assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident's assessment and care plan.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists licensed nurses in performing tests, procedures, and examinations.
  • Assists Restorative Aides with activities to promote resident independence and performs passive range of motion.
  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
  • Cares for the dying resident and gives post-mortem care.
  • Communicates to team leader changes in resident status, needs and/or concerns.
  • Maintains resident rooms in a neat manner, maintains supplies, removes soiled linen, restocks supplies, and maintains fresh drinking water.
  • May perform other resident care duties as assigned by the team leader or Unit Manager.
  • Measures and records resident data including vital signs, height, weight, intake and output of food and fluids, collects laboratory specimens.
  • Performs routine care for an assigned group of residents including making beds, changing linens, giving baths and personal grooming care, caring for incontinent residents, lifting, moving, and transporting residents.
  • Serves trays, feeds residents, and removes trays.
  • All other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Active certification to practice as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Michigan from a state approved nurse aide training program.
  • Ability to recognize subtle changes in resident condition.
  • Must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professionalism.
  • Possesses interpersonal and relationship building skills to work in a cross-functional team as well as the ability to work with residents based on their cognitive ability.
  • Previous experience, in a rehabilitation or acute care setting is preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
  • Ability to transfer residents weighing three up to hundred (300) pounds or more.
  • Push/pull wheeled carts and chairs weighing up to three hundred (300) pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works in resident rooms and at the unit nursing station with exposure to noise and unpleasant odors.
  • Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Unpredictable mealtimes: breaks are scheduled around resident care needs.
