Primary Objective of Position:

The Controller position is responsible for managing the accounting department and all accounting operations, including completing month end closing, timely billing of projects, cash management & analysis, job costing, audit support, and other tasks associated with managing the close and continuous improvement of the accounting environment, which requires proven computer and analytical skills. Acts as backup to Accounting Manager when necessary. This position will be responsible for supervising direct reports on a daily basis.

Primary Job Responsibilities and Major areas of Accountability:

  • Acts as direct supervisor to Accounting team, manages and reviews teams' performance/progress on an ongoing basis to meet company goals

  • Manage all accounting operations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll via Foundation Accounting Software

  • Administrator of company’s electronic expense tracking platform (TravelBank)

  • Partner with and oversee the additional accounting functions and operations to create transparency and efficiency within in the financial department

  • Oversee, review and present flash reports, P&L, cash forecast and Work On Hand (WOH) during weekly Financial meetings. Ad hoc financial reports as needed.

  • Partner with the Estimating department in tracking real-time job cost

  • Evaluate project margin/profitability analysis

  • Complete monthly reconciliations for all accounts

  • Complete month-end process

  • Federal, state and local reporting; various state sales & use tax accrual and payments, contractor licensing and oversight of outsourced corporate annual report filings.

  • Prepare quarterly and annual statements

  • Work closely with Owners and Operations to improve and process WOH and cost accounting reports

  • Assist outside CPA firm with preparation of all local and federal tax filings and reporting requirements

  • Manage cash and cash analysis, prepare cash flow statements, ensure adequate control and management of all cash related functions

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems in accordance with GAAP

  • Maintain internal control and safeguards to mitigate risks

  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner

  • Clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep Owners abreast of the company’s financial status

  • Support Owners with strategic financial planning, asset evaluation and R&D tracking

  • Supports the effort of ISO 9001 and process improvement by recommending methods, equipment, techniques and other changes to improve company operations. Participates in internal audits, risk assessment and corrective actions as required.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Preferred)

  • 5 years progressive experience in Accounting or Finance

  • 3 years experience managing a team or direct reports

  • Construction accounting experience (Preferred)

  • 2 years of experience with Foundation Accounting Software (Preferred)

  • Strong proficiency and aptitude for applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting

  • Ability to contribute to strategic planning and execution

  • Strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize key responsibilities

  • Valid driver’s license
