BII-MCE seeks to provide a rich and challenging, yet supportive and community-building, scientific research experience that will support students in pursuing careers in STEM fields. This internship provides sustained support and a real path for students to enter scientific research, presenting a clear path to university undergraduate to graduate school and beyond. By integrating interns into active research programs in the BII-MCE, embedding students in all BII-MCE activities, and providing students with the opportunity to work in labs focused on understanding cellular evolution, we will expand the overarching goal of the BII-MCE of helping train the next generation of researchers in evolutionary cell biology, and by focusing on students, we will support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the STEM fields.
